In this blog article, I will present crucial ideas and tools to help you start studying Korean as a beginner! 행운을 빌어요!!!

Start with Hangul

The Korean alphabet, Hangul, is made up of 14 consonants and 10 vowels. (see next image)

Begin your language journey by learning Hangul first. It is a simple writing system that may be mastered in a short period.

Online courses, smartphone apps, and flashcards are fantastic resources for becoming acquainted with Hangul characters and pronunciation.

Build a Strong Foundation with Basic Vocabulary

Begin by learning simple Korean words and phrases to enhance your vocabulary. Concentrate on common vocabulary such as greetings, numbers, colours, and nouns.

Structured courses and vocabulary lists designed for beginners can be found on online language learning platforms, Korean language textbooks, and language exchange websites.

Practice Speaking and Listening

Active practice is required for language learning. Practice speaking and listening skills to enhance your pronunciation and comprehension. Find language exchange partners or join language study communities to speak Korean with native speakers. Listening to Korean music, and podcasts, and watching Korean dramas with subtitles will also help you improve your ear.

Master Essential Grammar Structures

Understanding basic grammar patterns is essential for building sentences and expressing oneself in Korean.

Discover fundamental sentence structures, verb conjugations, and sentence endings.

To help you understand Korean grammar, online resources, textbooks, and language learning applications frequently include clear explanations and examples.

Immerse Yourself in Korean Culture

To improve your language learning experience, immerse yourself in Korean culture. Investigate Korean cuisine, music, movies, and television shows. #Anki, #HelloTalk, and Naver Dictionary are mobile apps that can be used for vocabulary development, language exchange, and dictionary access.

I'm personally using these apps since I started learning Korean in 2021:

#Drops: It is a vocabulary-focused language-learning app that offers classes in a range of languages, including Korean. It is intended to assist users in learning important terminology through entertaining and interactive tasks. The software employs visual associations, audio, and short sessions to assist users in remembering new words and phrases.

Drops provide bite-sized lessons that teach vocabulary and phrases from several areas such as food, travel, daily life, and more. The app is popular for its game-like approach and minimalist design, which seeks to make language learning fun and accessible.

Duolingo: (My favourite lol) Lessons on Duolingo are organized into ability levels, and users can advance through them by completing numerous exercises that emphasize listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The app also contains a variety of interactive features such as matching exercises, fill-in-the-blank activities, and speech recognition technology-based speaking exercises.

Duolingo is well-known for its approachable and user-friendly approach to language learning, and it is appropriate for learners of all levels, from beginners to experienced. It's available on a variety of platforms, including smartphone and tablet apps, as well as a web version.

Korean Conversation Practice with #CUDU: This one has been with me since day 1 of my Hangul journey. It can improve your ability to communicate in Korean with daily conversations.

They have many conversations that would help you to improve your speaking skills and make you feel like talking with native speakers.

The application helps you immediately improve your communication skill in Korean (in daily communication, travel, shopping, work, weather ...), support for learning, research, job, travel, study abroad, and labour export ...

NAVER SmartBoard: The Korean keyboard app includes features such as predictive text recommendations, autocorrect, and specific functions for typing Korean characters such as Hangul. It also supports emoticons, stickers, and several customizing options which also makes this my fave since It allows me to customize the keyboard without downloading any theme.

Additionally, NAVER SmartBoard provides easy access to NAVER services like search and translation, making it a comprehensive tool for Korean language users.

I'm using this every time there's a new and when I encounter an unfamiliar sentence. This helps me translate a bit accurately, I guess.

#Papago: NAVER, also created Papago, an automated translation service. It is intended to provide translation services for a wide range of languages, including Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese, French, and Spanish. Papago is well-known for its precision and is commonly used for text, online, and even spoken language translation.

Papago includes the following features:

Text Translation allows users to enter text in one language and receive a translation in another. It supports a variety of language pairs, making it handy for communicating and comprehending content in multiple languages.

Image Translation: Users can take a picture of printed text and have Papago recognize and translate the text within the image.

Voice Translation: Users can say statements in their native language, and Papago will translate them into the target language. This function is very beneficial for tourists and language learners.

Website Translation: Papago also provides website translation, allowing users to enter a webpage's URL and receive a translated version.

Mobile App Integration: Because Papago is available as a mobile app, customers can get translation services while on the go.

Language Learning: In addition to translation, Papago offers language learning aids such as sample phrases, pronunciation support, and contextual usage examples.

I downloaded this one early this year, and so far I'm satisfied with it. :)

#VIKIRakuten: Viki Rakuten, often known as #Viki, is an online streaming platform that provides a diverse selection of TV series, movies, and other video material from across the world, with a focus on Asian dramas and entertainment. What makes it cool is Its subtitling method is driven by the community. Volunteer fans write subtitles for content in a variety of languages, allowing it to be seen by a global audience. You can also see accurate translations of the subtitle when you click a word.

Feel free to use these apps all available on Android, I'm not sure about IOS though but you can always try. :)

Last and most important... Practice Consistently

Language learning requires consistency. Set up devoted study time every day or week and stick to it. Regularly practice reading, writing, speaking, and listening to reinforce what you've learned.

Accountability and motivation can be provided by online language learning forums and study groups.
